Meet API
Add a video call to your product in minutes, then switch on live captions, spoken translation and recording when you need them.
Meet is a video call API. You create a room from your server, give each person a short-lived meeting token, and show the call in your own page. Meet runs the call servers, the captions and the translation. You keep your own users and your own screens.
What you get#
- Video and audio calls. Group calls, meetings and one-to-many stages. Large calls stay smooth because each person only receives the video tiles they can see (last-N and simulcast).
- Live captions. Speech to text while people talk, in many languages, with a transcript you can download afterwards.
- Live spoken translation. A listener hears the speaker in their own language, a few seconds behind. This is the part most video APIs do not sell. See Live captions and translation.
- Recording. Audio, transcript and chat of a call, kept for 30 days by default. See Recording.
- White label. Your name, logo, colours and font. See White label.
- EU hosting. Calls run on servers in the EU.
- Signed webhooks. Know when a call starts, who joined and when a recording is ready. See Webhooks.
How it fits together#
- Your server calls the REST API with a secret key (
mk_test_...while you build,mk_live_...in production) to create a room. - Your server mints a meeting token for one person in that room. The token says the name, the role and what the person may do.
- Your page shows the call with the embed SDK (an iframe you control from JavaScript), or you draw your own screen with the headless client (preview).
- Meet tells your server what happened through webhooks and the sessions API.
Secret keys never go to a browser. Meeting tokens are made for the browser: they work in one room only and expire.

Test mode and live mode#
Every project has two kinds of keys. A test key only sees test rooms and test data and costs nothing. A live key works on live rooms and counts towards your usage. You can build everything with a test key first. Read Projects and API keys.
Get a key#
Sign up in the dashboard, create a project and make a test key. The secret is shown once, so copy it into your
server's environment (for example MEET_API_KEY). Then check it works:
curl "https://meet.respiresoft.com/api/v1/whoami" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $MEET_API_KEY"You get back your project name and "mode": "test".
